Passing away of the president, Swami Gahananandaji

I was saddened to hear yesterday that Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj, the 14th president of the Ramakrishna Order passed away yesterday, the 4th of November. I had first met the Swami when he was in San Francisco in the mid-1990's for the ground-breaking ceremony for the San Francisco Vedanta Society's building addition.

More information about Swami Gahananandaji can be found on the Ramakrishna Math & Mission's website.

Passing away of Swami Adiswaranandaji

Some of you may know Swami Adiswaranadaji, who had been the minister and spiritual leader of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York (east side) for many years. I was sad to hear this week that he passed away suddenly.

From the Center's site:

With a heavy heart we are saddened to announce the sudden passing away on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 of Revered Swami Adiswarananda, the beloved minister and spiritual leader of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York. Swami experienced a very severe hemorrhage (bleeding) in the brain on Monday, October 29, 2007 that proved fatal. Swami was fully conscious when the incident occurred, and he passed away peacefully and painlessly.

Passing Away of Swami Gokulanandaji

It is with sadness that I heard this past weekend of the passing away of Swami Gokulanandaji. He passed away on Saturday March 31st. The Swami was the head of the Ramakrishna Mission in Delhi.

I first met Swami Gokulanandaji when I visited Delhi in 1996. He was very loving and hospitable, and made me feel right at home. Several years later in 2004, the Swami visited the United States where I was able to meet him again.

The photo below of the Swami was taken on his trip to Seattle in 2004. You can see the Vivekananda Hall at the Vedanta Society of Western Washington's Tapovan Retreat in the background.

Patanjali's Yoga Sutra by Swami Sridharananda

The Vedanta Centre of Sydney, Australia has made a couple talks by Swami Sridharananda available on YouTube.
Here is the first of seven parts of a discourse on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.

You can visit the Vedanta Centre of Sydney's section on YouTube to see the rest of this discourse, and others.

I had the chance to listen to Swami Sridharananda at the Vedanta Society of Northern California's Olema retreat last year, and I must say that he is very good at explaining the subject at hand. It was a wonderful experience.
